About Us

Dennis Dean is the founder and CEO of Pranayama.com.
He is the principal teacher and provides stewardship for all teachings and courses offered throughout the platform.

What We Teach

Our work focuses on teaching pranayama and prana literacy.

“We don’t teach random subjects. We use different subjects to explain the same thing.”

How We Teach

We teach through courses, newsletters, and podcasts. Each format uses the lens of the breath (pranayama) and energy (prana) to look at everyday life and assist people in understanding how breathing, movement, and experience are connected.

Why This Exists

This work exists to focus on what we have in common. The breath and energy are used as shared reference points to help people see connection rather than division.

“Learning pranayama and understanding prana are important. Learning how those same principles connect us to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us is the deeper purpose of the work.”

– Dennis Dean

FAQ

No. While pranayama is central, the work goes beyond technique. Breath is used as a practical entry point to understand how energy, movement, and lived experience connect us all together

Pranayama.com is a teaching platform focused on pranayama and prana literacy. The work is guided by Dennis Dean and explores breath and energy as practical ways to understand everyday experience.

No. This work begins with simple breath awareness, which is something everyone already has access to. The teachings are designed to be practical and approachable, whether you are new to pranayama or have years of experience.

Prana — Historical Definition

Prana is the term used in early Indian philosophical and medical traditions to describe the vital force that animates living beings. It is most directly associated with breathing, but historically it refers to the life-sustaining energy that governs respiration, circulation, movement, and sensory activity.

In early texts such as the Upanishads, prana is described as the force that keeps the body alive and functioning. Breath is considered its most observable expression, which is why breath became the primary way prana was studied and regulated.

In Ayurvedic medicine, prana is understood as the organizing energy of life, responsible for intake—of air, food, sensory information, and experience. It is not mystical in this context; it is functional. When prana is balanced, systems function coherently. When disturbed, dysfunction arises.

In classical yogic systems, pranayama is the practical method used to observe, regulate, and refine prana through the breath, because breath is the only life function that is both automatic and voluntarily controlled.
