Hi Friend,
A big part of my heart will always remain in Malibu, California.
Skateboarding down Rambla Pacifico from “On Top of the World” with my brother to share a sandwich on Hwy 101, only to see Paul Newman drive up in his white porsche with racing stripes to pick up a sandwich at the same locale shop. He jumps out of his Porsche with his pilot Ray-Bans on and takes them off his face, sticks one end of the sunglasses in his ear, and waves at us with a big grin. We wave back and continue eating.
Spending time with my dear friend Stuart Etlin at his family’s home on the beach which stands no more because of the devastating fires.
Sitting next to Sean Penn eating lunch at Malibu Junior High School or being continuously foot tapped in the back by a young Maria Dylan (Bob Dylan’s daughter) to whom is sitting behind me in my history class.
Hanging out on Melrose Ave with Maria McKee before she formed the band, Lone Justice with Ryan Hedgecock.
Then, running into Neil Young on Zuma Beach at Sunset…
I spent several years throughout my 20s working as a carpenter in Malibu on my way up to Mill Valley through Santa Barbara.
I’m feeling a road trip is in order. Time to see the new look Venice Beach is donning …
I’ll keep you posted… oxox -D

Music Insight
The piece that I’ve been writing this newsletter to: Benedictus with 2Cellos‘Benedictus’, from Sir Karl Jenkins‘ work The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace, is one of the Welsh composer’s best-known works and surely one of the most beautiful pieces of choral music from the last 50 years. On You Tube hereThis was the last piece of music that I spoke to about and listened to with, my dear friend Athene English (link to her shop in Hay -on-Wye) before she passed. We both listened to it over the phone with great reverence. oxox Her dedication can be found here. |
Stay in the light of love my friends. It’s always worth it. Dennis
